MEMPHIS - Wilma S. Cox, 86, of Tater Road, Memphis, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Wilma was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Valier, Mont., the daughter of the late Ora and Annie Osborne Stockmyer. She lived in the same house on Tater Road since 1941. She had been active with the Meridian Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Lysander Grange and had also served at the state level of the Grange. She, along with her husband, Robert W. Cox, had owned and operated Cox Farm for many years.
Wilma was a very energetic, positive lady with a pioneer's spirit. She was able to drive a team of horses, throw bales of hay, tend the garden, milk the cows, as well as sew a dress, put on a great meal, bake super pies and beat you in a game of cards. She loved to square dance, have spirited conversations and was considered to be "good" company. She was loved by everyone - especially her family.
She is survived by a son, Albert Cox and his wife, Pam, of Cato; a daughter, Carol Blake of Hannibal; three grandchildren, Krysta Ross and her husband Joel of Memphis, Slade Cox and his wife Kristin of Cato, and Willow Cox of Syracuse; two great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1998; her grandson, Brian Blake, in 1988; and two brothers, Chester and Russell Stockmyer.
Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at Jewell Funeral Homes Inc., 13164 South St., Cato. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ira Union Cemetery.
