AUBURN - The memorial service for former Auburn High School coach Bob Dean will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 17 William St. in Auburn. Calling hours will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Dean, 93, died at his Auburn home on Friday, April 9.
Dean coached the Maroons to six undefeated seasons from 1947 to 1959, and finished with a 71-22-6 record. He also coached Auburn's baseball squad until 1965.
Born in 1911 in Vestal, Dean graduated from Union-Endicott High School and continued his education at SUNY Cortland. Dean majored in physical education, and was a member of the baseball and football teams. He was a guard and an end on the football team during the 1933 and 1935 undefeated seasons.
In 1986, he was elected into Cortland's C-Club Hall of Fame. In 2001, Dean was elected in the first class to the Auburn Athletic Hall of Fame.
