AUBURN - Mrs. Regina E. Vasile, 85, of 121 Grove Ave., Auburn, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Auburn Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Seneca Falls, she was born on April 3, 1920, the daughter Gennaro and Maria Torchinelli Santaniello. She has resided in Auburn since 1946. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Joseph Vasile, on May 24, 1975.
She retired in March 1984 from G.E., Auburn, where she was employed in quality control for many years. She was a former volunteer at Auburn Memorial Hospital, an avid traveler, who enjoyed the casinos and bingo. Her heart and soul were devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are three children, the Rev. Louis A. Vasile of St. Alphonsus Church, Auburn, Gennaro J. Vasile, Ph.D. and his wife, MaryEllen, of Manlius, and Rosalie and Paul Brennan of Syracuse; a sister, Frances Gigliotti of Seneca Falls; a brother-in-law, Jim Vasile of Auburn; five grandchildren, Kevin Vasile, Colleen Vasile Viggiano, Brian Vasile, Michelle Paparo and Elizabeth Hubenthal; three great-grandchildren, Kyler and Luke Viggiano and "E.J." Vasile; nieces, nephews and cousins.222
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; brothers, Ben and Ed Santaniello; and her sister, Clementine Santaniello.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today, April 22, at Farrell's Funeral Service Inc., 84 South St., Auburn. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, in St. Alphonsus Church, with Bishop Matthew H. Clark, bishop of the Diocese of Rochester, as celebrant and principal presider; the Rev. Louis A. Vasile, her son, pastor of St. Alphonsus Church as co-presider; and the Rev. John Rainone of Providence, R.I., as co-presider. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fleming.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the St. Alphonsus Cares & Shares Program, 10 Lewis St., Auburn, NY 13021; or the Louis & Regina Vasile Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. John Fisher College, 3690 East Ave., Rochester, NY 14618.
