AUBURN - Mr. Ralph O. Mortin, 77, of 28 Swift St., Auburn, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
A lifelong resident of the area, Ralph was born Jan. 4, 1928, the son of George and Mary Delano Mortin in Mottville, and was a graduate of Skaneateles High School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Philippines and retired with 30 years of service as a New York state correctional officer.
He was a member of Holy Family Church, Auburn, having served the church as Eucharist minister and Parish Council Finance Committee member. A past president of the Board of Directors of the Auburn NY Federal Credit Union, past president of the Council 82 Subchapter 129 Retirees of NYS Corrections, a member of the Valentine Myers Post 317 of the American Legion, Skaneateles, and a member of the VFW Post 1975, Auburn.
Surviving is his wife, Eleanor Kelly Mortin of Auburn; their son, John F. Mortin and his wife, Marcia, of Manassas, Va.; one brother, Donald Mortin of Melbourne, Fla.; sister-in-law, Margaret Newman of Auburn; several nieces and nephews, including David Mortin and Kathy Slack and her husband, James Slack.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 16, in Holy Family Church, Auburn, with the Rev. James Burke, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. today, April 15, at Farrell's Funeral Service Inc., 84 South St., Auburn.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
