Cereo tosses no-hitter as Panthers beat Rebels

PARISH - Port Byron's Beth Cereo pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts and two unearned runs to lead the Panthers to a 7-2 softball win over APW Tuesday.
Stacey Schriener led the offense with two hits. Courtney Dare, Cereo, Carolyn Cioffa and Megan Blauvelt each had one hit.

"We had a great defensive effort," Port Byron coach Bill DeAngelis said.

Port Byron (1-1) hosts Weedsport at 4 p.m. Thursday.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Lansing 106, Moravia 35, Southern Cayuga 30

LANSING - Chris Hilliard won the 110 hurdles (15.9), 400 hurdles (1:00.7) and the high jump (5-8) to lead the Chiefs (1-1). Dave Gannon won the 800m (2:11.7).

Hilliard, Gannon, Pat McGarr and Nick Zabriskie placed second in the 4x400 (3:40.5).

Nate Phelps led Moravia with two first-place wins against Southern Cayuga in the shot put (40-10.5) and the discus (116-1). Eric Connor won the triple jump (33-1.5) and Aaron Mix won the long jump (13-5).

Moravia travels to Weedsport Friday.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Lansing 118, Moravia 99, Southern Cayuga 10

LANSING - Kara Kopp led the Chiefs (0-2) by winning the 400m (1:00.8) and placing second (27.2) in the 200m.

Catrina Dwyer placed first in the 100m hurdles (17.2) and the 100m dash (13.5). Kerrin Epstein was first in the 1500m (5:27.6). Against Southern Cayuga, Dwyer placed first in the long jump (14-1.5).

Amber Murphy was first in the shot put (30-5) and first in the discus (85-4.5). Emily Lockett was first in the 800m (2:43.4). Miranda Giusti, Jessica Higgins, Stephanie Dann and Dwyer were first in the 400m relay (56.0)

Moravia travels to Weedsport on Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

Port Byron 5, LaFayette 0

PORT BYRON - Knute Toade won at first singles 6-0, 6-0 to help improve the Panthers to 2-0.

Marcelo Fonseca won second singles 6-0, 6-0 and Mallory Jakaub won at third singles 6-2, 6-4.

In first doubles, Neale Taylor and Jack Morehouse won 6-4, 6-3. In second doubles, Justin Rose and Max Guy won 6-0, 6-0.

Port Byron hosts Manlius Pebble Hill at 4 p.m. today.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Central Square 11, Auburn 10

CENTRAL SQUARE - Shannon Lattimore scored four goals to lead the Maroons.

Caitlyn Leone added two goals and one assist. Flannery Nangle scored two goals,. Andrea Musso and Rosie Scheibel each scored one. Sarah May added one assist.

Brittney Baran had five saves and Jolynn Brewer added three saves.

Auburn (0-1) plays at Corcoran 6 p.m. Thursday.

BASEBALL

APW 8, Port Byron 0

PARISH - The Panthers were two-hit as Mitch David and Nate Short had a hit each.

Starting pitcher Joe Traver went four innings and allowed three runs.

Port Byron (0-2) plays at Weedsport Thursday.
