AUBURN - Sandra Jean Spaide, 63, of Syracuse died unexpectedly Sunday, March 13, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse with her family by her side.
Sandra was born in Auburn on August 16, 1941, the daughter of the late Richard and Hazel Palmer Squires.
She had resided in Auburn for much of her life and most recently was a resident of Perry Street. She attended local schools and had earned two Associates degrees from Cayuga Community College.
Sandra was a giving and caring person, dedicating her life to helping others. In her younger years she was an advocate for women's rights and human rights through her work with CCAP.
She had a true gift of helping adults and children with developmental disabilities; she was very active with her church, the Auburn Church of the Nazarene, and the Lighthouse Keepers; she had volunteered at Freedom Camp and also the YMCA and SAVAR. She loved children and for many years had operated a daycare center.
While in Syracuse, she was involved with the Solvay Community Center.
Sandra is survived by her children, Colleen Bellnier and her partner, Elaine Chasse of Watertown, Paula (John) Sanzo of Marcellus, Tammy Lawton and Chris (Devy) Bellnier of Tenn.; her sister, Barbara Thurston with Steve Follett of Auburn; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Abbey, Chris, Katie, David Bellnier and Alexandra and Nick Sanzo; five great-grandchildren, Derick, Elijah, Deven, Christopher and Alea; nieces and nephews, Tammy (Jay) Amidon, Daniel (Lonnie) Thurston, Charlotte Keegan, Michele Thurston, Richard (Kelly) Thurston and Charles (Lorrie) Thurston. In addition to her parents, Richard Squires and Hazel Townsend, she was predeceased by her nephew, Michael Thurston.
Funeral services for Sandra will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Nazarene, E. Genesee St., Auburn. Interment will be in Fort Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit with her family 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South St., Auburn.
Sandra was a wonderful woman who despite many health issues would give her all to everyone around her.
She was a very strong woman and very strong in her faith, she loved God, her family, her friends and life. She will be greatly missed.
