SKANEATELES - David Allen Lyons, Tracy Drive, Skaneateles, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at home, after a long illness.
David was born in Albany, Feb. 4, 1941, to Mary Sickinger Lyons and Maurice Andrew Lyons, who have predeceased him. He attended St. John's Catholic School in Rensselaer, from kindergarten through 12th grade. He was a graduate of Ithaca College with a BS degree in accounting and was elected senior class president. He served in the Army Reserves for six years.
David spent more than 30 years in the accounting profession as a CPA, beginning his career with Ernst and Ernst, an international firm with an office in Syracuse. He retired from Bowen, Lyons, Pine Associates CPAs in Auburn, where he was a principal and managing partner for many years. He then was owner of Rent a Wreck Car Rentals and York Self-Storage in Auburn.
David is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan; and his only son, David Harper Lyons of Syracuse; two brothers, Donald and Robert (Ann) Lyons of Rensselaer; a niece, nephew, several cousins, uncles and aunts.
He was particularly fond of two aunts, Sister Margaret Mary Lyons and Sister Dorothy Lyons of Burlington, Vt. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Mary Docharty Gudell, who he said was an inspiration to him.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, at the Robert D. Gray Funeral Home, and a Mass of Resurrection will be offered at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's of the Lake Church, Skaneateles. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home, 49 Jordan St.
