Edwin L. Dinkel

KING FERRY - Edwin L. Dinkel, 81, of 8743 Route 90, King Ferry, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Dinkel was born Feb. 23, 1924 in Winterhaven, Fla., the son of the late Edwin Sr. and Emma Snyder Dinkel. A resident of King Ferry for most of his life, he had been employed as a mechanic for Don's Marina of King Ferry, and previously had worked for H.R. Wilson in King Ferry and Wayne Electric in Auburn.

Mr. Dinkel was a retired member and past chief of the King Ferry Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member and past president of both the Board of Trustees of the West Genoa Cemetery Association, and the Southern Cayuga Senior Citizen group, and was a former member of the King Ferry VFW.

An Army veteran of World War II, he participated in the Normandy Invasion with an amphibious crew at Omaha Beach, and later served throughout the European Theatre.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen Roudabush Dinkel; a son, Michael (Vicki Flynn) Dinkel of Penfield; two daughters, Pam (John) Stanton of Locke and Nancy (Ted) Zakour of King Ferry; three grandchildren, Justin and Tommy Stanton and Sarah Zakour; a sister, Audrey (George) Zeranko of Strongstown, Pa.; many nieces, nephews and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 7, at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, Genoa, with the Rev. Larry B. Bell officiating. Spring burial will be in West Genoa Cemetery, King Ferry. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home, 10117 Route 90, Genoa.

Contributions in lieu of flowers, may be made to a charity of one's choice in Mr. Dinkel's memory.
