ALBANY - Motorists zipping through the E-ZPass lanes on the New York State Thruway racked up $3.4 million in unpaid tolls over the past five years, according to a published report.
During the same period, the Thruway Authority failed to collect about $20 million in fines imposed on motorists and account holders, the Times Union of Albany reported Sunday.
The figures were based on data complied by the Thruway Authority and obtained by the newspaper through the state's Freedom of Information Law.
Thruway officials promised to hire a collection agency to collect delinquent fines.
