LAKELAND, Fla. - Lillian (Peggy) Vargo Buchanan of Lakeland, Fla. died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Wedgewood Healthcare.
She was born in Athens, Pa. on April 19, 1908, the daughter of Florence Lanning and Edward Miller. In the 1950s she first visited Florida and moved to Florida permanently in 1981 from Duck Lake.
She belonged to the Grange, Rebecca's and the Daughters of the Civil War. She was a descendent of Richard Warren who came to America on the Mayflower. She studied at the Conservatory of Music of Ithaca (Ithaca College) under Miss Mae Holmes, She was a Methodist. The Buchanan's owned a farm on Rockefeller Road in Auburn and had a cottage on Duck Lake.
She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Bob and Carol Vargo of Locke, Dick and Priscilla Vargo of Lakeland, Fla. and Edward (Ted) and Doris Vargo of Spencerport; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lois Miller of Lakeland, Fla. She was predeceased by husbands Stephen Vargo in 1947 and Charles Buchanan in 1981; a daughter, Bettie Marie Vargo; three brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services are at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Newfield.
