GETZVILLE - Earl E. Fox, 91, of Getzville died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, in Kenmore Mercy Hospital.
Mr. Fox was born in Bloomingburg, the son of the late John and Bertha Collard Fox and had resided in Union Springs since 1954, until recently.
Mr. Fox was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections and served as a Correction Officer in the Auburn Correctional Facility for 20 years. Prior to that he was employed in the Woodourne Correctional Facility for 14 years. He retired as a Lieutenant from corrections in 1974. In addition, he served as Mayor of the village of Union Springs from 1959 through 1983.
He was a member of Warren Lodge 147 F& AM, an honorary member of the Union Springs Lions Club, a former member of the Union Springs Fire Department, a member of the Union Springs Historical Society, and the Springport Senior Citizens. He also served as an elder of the Springport Presbyterian Church and was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.
He is survived by three sons, John W. Fox and his wife, Donna of Albion, Rev. Douglas E. Fox of Pasadena Md. and Kenneth E. Fox of Port Angeles, Wash.; two daughters, Janet Siulc and her husband, Lawrence of Derby and Dorothy Doherty of Jamaica Plains, Mass.; two brothers, Howard L. Fox and his wife, Nancy of Kingston and Donald W. Fox and his wife, Sadie of Middletown; two sisters, Muriel Wendland of Bloomingburg and Hazel White and her husband, Everett of Lindenhurst; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Fox was predeceased by his wife, Eva A. Hultslander Fox who died in 2003; two sisters, Beatrice Puls who died in 1973 and Mabel Hawkins who died in 1983 and one grandchild, Leah Fox who died in 1988.
Friends are invited to attend memorial services at 12 noon Saturday, March 5 in the Trinity United Church of Christ, Union Springs. The family will receive friends at the church 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service. A Masonic service will be at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Union Springs.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Trinity United Church of Christ, the Union Hose and Engine Company or to the Union Springs Ambulance Fund, in memory of Mr. Fox.
