MORAVIA - Cecelia C. Murphy, 85, of Keeler Avenue, Moravia, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005.
Born Nov. 19, 1919, in Patchogue, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Wojciechowski. She was married to Francis W. Murphy June 6, 1942, and when they returned to Moravia in 1946 to visit his family, they decided to stay, and she has resided here since.
Mrs. Murphy had been a Girl Scout leader, den mother and a volunteer for the Anthony Gallery. She was a member and past president of the Rowe Churchill American Legion Post No. 710 Ladies Auxiliary, a member and past president of the Cayuga County American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and a life member of the VFW Post No. 7127 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the Altar & Rosary Society.
Mrs. Murphy is survived by her children, Louise Kirwan and her husband Thomas of Auburn, Janet Morse, and Thomas Murphy and his wife Clara of Moravia; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes (Arthur) Brueckner of Largo, Fla. and Mrs. Lucille McCarthy of Nesconset; three brothers, John, Clement and Stanley Wojciechowski, all of Patchogue; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, "Murph," in 1988; and her sisters, Magdelene, Frances and Antoinette.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, in St. Patrick's Church, Moravia. Spring burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Moravia. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, in the Wade Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Moravia.
