Women: Apply for Zonta Club award

The Zonta Club of Auburn is looking for applicants who are interested in receiving its annual Young Women in Public Affairs Award and the Jean M. Coon Humanitarian Award.

Applicants for the public affairs award must be between the ages of 16 and 20, and applicants for the Coon award must be high school seniors or juniors. The purpose of both awards is to encourage the participation of young women in community affairs.

Girls interested in the awards must have their applications in by Feb. 28. Applications will be judged on the basis of their volunteer leadership in their community, as well as dedication to the advancement of the status of women, rather then on their scholastic achievements.

Award recipients will be recognized at a dinner of the local Zonta Club and will become part of a larger award selection process. Recipients of the Coon award will receive $200 cash and the public affairs recipient will receive $500.

Application forms have been distributed to high school counselors throughout the county and additional forms can be obtained by contacting Zonta Club members Elizabeth Trice at 252-0387 or Mariellen Androsko at 255-2573.
