Learn the benefits of Vitamin D
Auburn Memorial Hospital will host a lecture titled "Vitamin D: The King of All Vitamins - Why Living in Central New York Puts You at Risk of Vitamin D Deficiency."
The lecture, presented by Dr. Shirwan Mirza, will be from 7 to 8 p.m. March 15 in the hospital auditorium. The event is free and parking, also free, is available in the hospital parking garage.
The lecture is part of the hospital's Medically Speaking series, offered as a public service with the goal of educating the community about healthy living.
Broadway talent coming to MGR
The Merry-Go-Round Playhouse Producing Director Ed Sayles has arranged to bring in three renowned directors from Broadway to work on the playhouse's upcoming season, which begins June 1.
Tony-nominated Charles Repole, director of last season's acclaimed production of Mame, will direct the first production of the season, Brigadoon, the Lerner and Loewe tale of a fabled Scottish village.
Kathleen Conry will direct Merry-Go-Round's second production, George M!, the musical classic that depicts the life of America's first true superstar, George M. Cohan.
The Merry-Go-Round's production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, will be directed by Kate Swan, the associate choreographer for the Broadway company.

Women: Apply for Zonta Club award
The Zonta Club of Auburn is looking for applicants who are interested in receiving its annual Young Women in Public Affairs Award and the Jean M. Coon Humanitarian Award.
Applicants for the public affairs award must be between the ages of 16 and 20, and applicants for the Coon award must be high school seniors or juniors. The purpose of both awards is to encourage the participation of young women in community affairs.
Girls interested in the awards must have their applications in by Feb. 28. Applications will be judged on the basis of their volunteer leadership in their community, as well as dedication to the advancement of the status of women, rather then on their scholastic achievements.
Award recipients will be recognized at a dinner of the local Zonta Club and will become part of a larger award selection process. Recipients of the Coon award will receive $200 cash and the public affairs recipient will receive $500.
Application forms have been distributed to high school counselors throughout the county and additional forms can be obtained by contacting Zonta Club members Elizabeth Trice at 252-0387 or Mariellen Androsko at 255-2573.
Concrete company earns award
Robinson Concrete Inc. is the recipient of the 2004 Silver Award for Excellence in Concrete Design and Installation by the Central New York Chapter of the American Concrete Institute.
The award, based on aesthetic concept, innovative use of materials, structural design and quality of installation, is given for their participation in concrete production for building the Town of Brutus Water Tower.
This structure, completed in April 2004, is the first composite elevated storage tank built in New York.
