Panther boys tip Chiefs

PORT BYRON - Nick Janusz had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Port Byron boys basketball team over Southern Cayuga on Saturday, 68-57.
Nate Short had 15 points for the Panthers, while Andrew Perkins had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.

"It was a good team win for us," said Panther coach Chris Ford.

Josh Mitchell had 13 points to lead the Chiefs, while John Bergenstock had 10.

Port Byron improved to 12-8.

Weedsport 49, Hannibal 46

WEEDSPORT - Mike Coolbaugh paced the Warriors with 19 points, and Adam Sweet pitched in with 17.

Girls

Southern Cayuga

Kara Kopp had two first-place finishes for the Chiefs.

Kopp won the 55-meter dash in 7.3 seconds, breaking the previous school record. She also won the 300 meters in 43.1 and teamed with Amanda Collier, Brittany Wilbur and Zella DeForest for a sixth-place finish in the 4x200 relay in 2:03.1.

Moravia

The Blue Devils had two first-place finishes.

Catrina Dwyer set a new school record in the high jump, placing first with a jump of 4-10. Dwyer also had two third-place finishes in the 55-meter hurdles (9.3) and the 55-meter dash.

Kerrin Epstein broke her own school record in the 1,500, finishing first in 5:23.8. Epstein was also fourth in the 3,000 in 11:47.6.

Megan Benson placed fourth in the 1,500 race walk in 9:46.0, and Samantha Lorah was fifth in the 1,500 run in 5:57.4.

Boys

Southern Cayuga

Pat McGarr won the 1,000 in 2:45.5 and placed in two relays. McGarr teamed with Dave Gannon, Chris Hilliard and Nick Zabriskie for a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay (3:44.3), and combined with Brian Hulme, William Seaman and Michael Thorn for a sixth-place finish in the 4x200 relay (1:53.6).

Hilliard also finished second in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.3.

Moravia

Three Blue Devils placed in the shot put. Nate Phelps was second (44-1), Bobby Sovocool was fifth (40-8) and Kevin Sisto was sixth (40-4).

VOLLEYBALL

Christian Brothers Academy 3, Jordan-Elbridge 0

ELBRIDGE - The Eagles lost in three games, 25-18, 26-24 and 25-19.

Megan Caron paced J-E with five kills, four blocks and two aces. Chrissy Canino added two kills and four aces, Lindsay Gonyea had two aces and 11 assists, Shana Sheehy had four kills and Kristin Crowley had two kills.

Jordan-Elbridge (2-18) ends the regular season by hosting Homer on Tuesday.
