Bernard O. Baird III

OWASCO - Bernard O. Baird III, 44, of Owasco, died Friday, February 4, 2005, in the Matthew House of Auburn.
Bernie was born in Auburn, the son of the late Bernard O. Baird Jr. and Suzanne Northway Baird. Bernie was a life-long resident of Owasco. He was a 1979 graduate of Auburn High School. He was employed by D & L Truk Stop for more than 25 years. Bernie's favorite past time was camping with his family and friends. As a member of Owasco Fire Department since 1983, he served all ranks of the department, most recently as chief of the department, prior to his illness.

Bernie is survived by his wife, the former Deborah McConnell; his children Bernard O. "Bunk" Baird IV and Courtney Baird, all at home; his mother, Suzanne Baird of Owasco; a brother, William Baird and his wife, Linda of Painted Post; an aunt, Shirley Bayus and an uncle, George Baird, both of Auburn. He is also survived by his father and mother in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McConnell; brothers in-law; Robert McConnell, Richard (Rhonda) McConnell, Kevin (Melissa) McConnell and sisters in-law; Lori (James) Ciaccio and Sandra (Dominick) Feocco. Nieces and nephews include: Tyler, Jordan, and MacKenzie Baird of Painted Post, Mitchell and Mark Feocco, Stephen and Christiana Ciaccio, Meghan, Richard, Laura and Madeline McConnell. Bernie was predeceased by his father, Bernard O. Baird Jr. in 1987.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, Owasco Fire Dept. Station 1, 7174 Owasco Road. with the Rev. Derek Vande Slunt officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fleming. Family and friends are invited to call 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6 in the Heieck-Pelc Funeral Home, 42 E. Genesee St., Auburn. Owasco Fire Department members will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Owasco Fire Dept. Station 1; Matthew House, 43 Metcalf Drive, Auburn, or Hospice of the Fingerlakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn.

Bernie made his mark on the community with his innate ability and readiness to help and serve others. Bernie will be deeply missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
