Trustee meeting rescheduled
The February meeting of the Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees has been rescheduled due to travel plans.
The board will meet on Monday, Feb. 14, instead of Wednesday, Feb. 16. A personnel committee meeting at 3 p.m. will precede the regular board meeting at 4 p.m. The meeting will be held in the BIC classroom in the Regional Economic Center.
Parolee taken into custody for DWI
An accused parole violator was arrested by Auburn city police on a felony driving while intoxicated charge Jan. 29, as well as other charges of failure to keep right, using unreasonable speed, violating parole and failure to stop at a stop sign.
Richard E. Quimby, 34, of 60 Elizabeth St.-Apt. 1, Auburn, was arrested after police responded to a report of a crowd gathering in front of a Wall Street bar, police said. Quimby was identified as a leader of the gathering and leaving the crowd in a small, white car, police said. Police followed his car and stopped Quimby on State Street.
Friends hosts Dirty Chavis Band
The Dirty Chavis Band will be playing classic rock from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. tonight at Friends Tavern at 346 W. Genesee St. in Auburn. Admission is $3 at the door.
NYSEG raises $30K for tsunami victims
Workers at NYSEG have joined up with a number of other Energy East Corp. subsidiaries to raise more than $30,000 for the tsunami relief effort.
The money raised by employees was matched by the Energy East Foundation, bring the total amount donated over $60,000
"We offered this opportunity for a dollar-for-dollar match to employees and they came through with flying colors," NYSEG president Jim Laurito said. "Again and again, whether people in need are down the street or half way around the world, our employees express their generosity."
NYSEG serves a large portion of Cayuga County.
Politicians honored for service to parks
New York Democratic U.S. Senators Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer and Rep. James Walsh, R-Onondaga, have been presented with a Friend of the National Park award by the nonpartisan National Parks Conservation Association.
The award was established in 1999 to track and publicize congressional members' votes on significant park issues. The organization examined six key House votes and five key Senate votes for the 108th Congress to determine which members voted to support national park or related public land legislation.
Red Cross posts disaster relief totals
The Red Cross reported that as of Friday, 308 residents of Cayuga County have donated $34,495.31 to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Tsunami Disaster Fund.

Parks and Trails New York, a statewide conservation organization, is seeking nominations for its 2005 Greenway and Community Trail Awards. The awards recognize the leadership, creativity, and donation of time, talent and materials behind many of New York's trails.
