WEEDSPORT - Weedsport High football coach Cal Mosher was named co-Coach of the Year at the Central New York chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Sunday at the Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet at Drumlins Country Club.
Mosher shares the honor with Christian Brothers Academy coach Joe Casamento. Mosher and Casamento won state titles in Class D and AA, respectively.
"I think that winning this award is a direct reflection on you having a good season and an outstanding football team," Mosher said. "So really I accepted the award on behalf of the Weedsport football team, because you receive a coach of the year award when your team does exceptionally well. That, of course, is based on your players."
Last November, Weedsport capped off a perfect 13-0 season by defeating Tuckahoe 22-21 in the state Class D championship game at the Carrier Dome.
Weedsport knocked off three-time defending state champion Onondaga, Hancock, and Oakfield-Alabama on the way to the title game.
Mosher has been the Warriors' football coach for five seasons, compiling a 47-5 record.
Weedsport has won four league titles, gone to four Section III title games, won two Section III championships and one state title with Mosher at the helm.
