SYRACUSE - Denver Broncos tight-end coach Brian Pariani Friday was named Syracuse's new offensive coordinator.
Pariani, an NFL coach for 14 years, has been on the staff of three Super Bowl champions. He takes over for longtime offensive coordinator George DeLeone, who left for Mississippi following the firing of head coach Paul Pasqualoni last month.
"Brian is as bright as any coach I have worked with," said new Orange coach Greg Robinson, Denver's former defensive coordinator in 1995. "His knowledge, experience and success will be hard to match. He is a great teacher and family man."
Pariani, who joined the Broncos in 1995, earned two Super Bowl rings, helping Denver to back-to-back championships in 1997 and 1998.
In the last 10 years, Broncos tight ends caught more passes (851) for more yards (9,875) than any other NFL team. While Pariani was at Denver, the Broncos ranked in the league's top five in total offense in seven of 10 seasons.
Pariani coached Shannon Sharpe in Denver to four consecutive Pro Bowl appearances (1995-98) and three straight first-team All-NFL selections (1996-98).
Pariani also mentored Dwayne Carswell to a Pro Bowl selection in 2001.
Pariani also spent five seasons as a coaches' assistant with the San Francisco 49ers, earning a Super Bowl title in 1994.
He began his NFL career in 1990 as a scouting assistant with the 49ers.
A native of San Francisco, Pariani has a bachelor's degree in political science from UCLA, where he worked in the football program as an undergraduate and graduate assistant.
