" Not to mention -- it may not even fly. I saw a burb the other day about a luxury high rise somewhere in Florida. This family put their life savings into a unit, only to find out when they got there that no one else had followed through with their purchases, so they are the only people in this one huge building. Many of the services have been turned off -- fountain in entryway, lights on many floors, no security guard at the desk, all kinds of services and facilities. They are finding it very scary to get up one morning and find someone has thrown all the deck chairs into the pool -- in what's supposed to be a locked and vacant except for themselves. The tower is one of a pair, and some few people who were buying in were able to move to the other tower where there are some more people (thought also far from full), but the loan/mortgage deal this family has won't allow such a move and they are stuck.

I can easily see such things happening in many parts of the country -- what happens if you build it and they DON'T come -- all that waste of money, destruction of open spaces and natural habitat -- for nothing. Maybe a tax write-off or an item in a big bankruptcy.

Either that, or the place in Auburn fills up with the kind of low-lifes who stole the BBQ grill from the old folks -- and worse.

Auburn is not exactly a growing community in need of lots of additional housing. Without jobs, having more housing is useless, whereas a few open, natural areas is very nice for those who loyally remain. "

" Very bizarre -- I tried to post a comment under the letter about a new housing development, and after I clicked the "Post Comment" button, I ended up here, on the page with 5 comments under no article at all! I feel like I've fallen down the rabbit hole!

I'm here with Leon -- who notes the blank page which should have been a letter to the editor, with movedsouth, who is asking about training for soldiers before going to Iraq, with kavetrano, who is shouting in all caps as if she were writing directly to Bonca's, and brew, who wrote about the movie The Postman in relation to his views on Obama.

I really HAVE fallen into a rabbit hole! "

" I saw "The Postman" on TBS last night and I found it to be symbolic of why I have been drawn to Obama. You may find this to be a cornball view, but I am an eternal optimist. The postman appeared one day and people did not immediately trust him as he was unknown to them. People were drawn to him for reasons they could not explain. You felt a sense of hope and a feeling that the future was going to be better. I just cannot feel this about McSame. In fact I can't even call him by his real name. In his peak he was a war hero and served his country well. But he gives me no feeling of a better tommorrow only more of today. "

WHAT DAY ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE AN

" I just have to question, how long does a soldier spend in the US for training before being deployed to Iraq? During this period, could not something have been done? "

" Wow... this "letter" has been up for days and it's just a red X in the space. You would have thought they would have noticed it by now. Am I the only one not seeing a letter to the editor here? "
