Throughout the year, Wounded Healers Bereavement Support Group's staff encounters people dealing with the loss of a loved one.
For many seeking their services, the greatest challenge is moving ahead with life. But Wounded Healers has found the start of a new year can be helpful in achieving that goal.
For that reason, the group holds an annual memorial service at the beginning of January. This year's program will be held tonight at 17 Clymer St. in Auburn.
"It's a new beginning," said Jeannette Berretta, who co-founded Wounded Healers in 1989. The organization is run by volunteers who use their own experiences of loss and grief to help others.
Services include support meetings, bereavement counseling, crisis intervention at schools and memorial services.
Tonight's program will feature musical selections and readings. Participants will also have a chance to speak about their loved ones. Following the service, participants will divide into groups for more personal discussions.
The organization encourages anyone who has experienced a loss in the past year to attend. Coffee and refreshments will be provided.
