AUBURN - George H. Bannon Jr., 82, of 182 E. Genesee St., Auburn, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at his home.
Born in Auburn, on Aug. 19, 1922, Mr. Bannon was the son of George H. Bannon Sr. and Katherine Long Bannon. A graduate of Holy Family High School's Class of 1940, he received his associates degree in Fire Science from Auburn Community College.
Mr. Bannon was one of the opening day ushers of the former Schine's Theater of Auburn, later serving as assistant manager from 1948-1949.
During World War II, he worked as a welder at ALCO and in the 1950s was well known as a television repairman. In August 1949, Mr. Bannon joined the Auburn Fire Department, retiring as assistant chief in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Alphonsus Church, and a member of the Auburn Firefighter's Retirees Association.
A devoted family man, Mr. Bannon was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret (Peg) Barry Bannon in April 1998.
He is survived by his four daughters, Marylyn Ianiri and husband Bob Anderson, Maureen O'Hora and husband Michael, Michele Clancy and husband Kevin, Marcie Bannon and husband Bob Blaisdell; five grandchildren, Jennifer Ianiri and Adam Ducayne, Chip Ianiri and his wife Marti, Chris Ianiri and his fiancee Jamie-Ann French, Margaret Kathryn O'Hora and Marylyn O'Hora Uhnak and her husband Steven; two sisters-in-law, Irene Bannon and Patricia Cusick; nephew, Barry Cusick; and cousins, Gilbert Jackson and Robert (Fran) Breck.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, in St. Alphonsus Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fleming. There will be no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry or the Auburn Retired Firefighters' Association of Auburn, NY, P.O. Box 1206, Auburn, NY 13021.
Arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South St., Auburn.
