WAVERLY - Southern Cayuga grappler Jason Hilliard achieved a career milestone by winning his 100th match at the Waverly Duals on Saturday.
Hilliard, wrestling in the 140 and 145 weight classes, went 5-0 in the tournament, and reached the century mark by pinning Marathon's Charles Hoellerer in 1:52. He received a standing ovation from the crowd after defeating Hoellerer.
"He beat some quality people today from Waverly and Windsor, who are in the upper echelon of wrestling in Section IV," said Southern Cayuga coach Norm Maywright. "I really believe that Jason will win the sectional crown and represent Section IV in the state meet in Albany in March. He has improved so much and has really dedicated himself to the sport.
Hilliard is 10-0 this season with no points scored against him so far, and raised his career record to 100-22. Last summer, the senior won a silver medal in the Scholastic Greco-Roman competition at the Empire State Games, and a bronze in the Scholastic Freestyle Competition.
"I feel that I've accomplished one of the goals that I've set for my senior year," Hilliard said. "I'm happy, and I hope I can continue to do well."
The Chiefs' Ryan Beebee went 4-1 in the tournament, and Chris Philip finished with a 3-2 record. The pair both wrestled in the 152 and 160 pound weight classes.
