AUBURN - Paul D. Gallinger Jr., 87, of 162 South St., Auburn, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at his home.
Mr. Gallinger was born in Syracuse on Nov. 25, 1916. He was the son of Paul D. and Louise Dunn Gallinger Sr. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army's 101st Airborne Division.
His military service included time in the European Theatre. He rode gliders in the invasion of Normandy, and was present for the entire Battle of the Bulge. He was always proud to have served his country, and felt it a privilege and his duty as an American.
Mr. Gallinger spent his life in the hardware business. He owned and operated stores in Cortland, and Herron Hardware of Auburn. Upon his retirement, he spent his last 20 years in the antique business.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Cortland, the Rotary Club of Auburn, the Skaneateles Methodist Church and the Auburn Power Squadron. He enjoyed boating, fishing and sports.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Jebbett Gallinger; a daughter, Diane Fritz and her husband John of Liverpool; two sons, Douglas Gallinger and his wife Christine, and Gregory Gallinger and his wife Kathy, all of Auburn; six grandchildren, Colleen, Amy, Lauren, Dan. Kristin and Gregory; two nephews and a niece.
Predeceasing Mr. Gallinger were two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, at White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South St., Auburn. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Skaneateles. Friends are invited to call on the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn, NY 13021.
