Heavy thundershowers forced the Cayuga County Fair Speedway to cancel the eighth and final Colton RV Empire DIRT series race Sunday evening, eliminating what would have been a closely contested battle for the series crown between point leader Tim Fuller and Gary Tomkins.
Fuller will earn the crown, as he held a 20-point lead over Tomkins entering last night's final series race. Matt Sheppard finishes third in the final tally, followed by Pat Ward and Alan Johnson.
The big-blocks will battle one more time at CCFS in the 2004 season, as the great Labor Day weekend tradition continues, and the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT series swings into town on Sunday, Sept. 5.
All the local favorites will be ready to take on the tour series regulars in a 100-lap, $6,000-to-win contest. Race time is 7 p.m., and the four-cylinder enduro cars have been added to the racing slate, joining the previously scheduled sportsman division in action.
Brett Hearn is atop the Advance Super DIRT series point standings for the first time this year, holding a two-point advantage over Billy Decker after the Autodrome Drummond race was held last Monday.
Tim McCreadie won the Drummond contest, and closed within 18 points of sixth-place standing Steve Paine.
The Turning Stone Casino 358-modified Super DIRT Series also underwent a lead change amongst the point leaders, with Pat Ward regaining the advantage over Pete Bicknell. Ward now leads Bicknell by 14 points.
Alan Johnson picked up a series win at Utica-Rome Speedway Thursday night and closed to within 42 points of the leader, sitting third in the standings.
