NILES, Ohio - Two games, two one-run losses for the Auburn Doubledays.
Jarad Mangioni's opposite-field homer tied it in the top of the ninth but the Mahoning Valley Scrappers scored in the bottom of the inning to beat Auburn 2-1 in a New York-Penn League game on Saturday night at Eastwood Field.
Auburn lost 3-2 on Friday.
Dewon Day started the ninth for Auburn and hit Scrappers' lead-off batter Chris Klem with the first pitch. A David Corrente passed ball advanced Klem to second.
Brett Parker was intentionally walked to set up the force. Teodoro Encarnacion bunted in a sacrifice try but reached base when first baseman Vince Esposito dropped the ball.
With the bases loaded, Day threw home on a comebacker for the first out. But Fernando Pacheco's broken-bat single to shallow right scored the winning run.
The Scrappers took a 1-0 lead on Klem's RBI single in the sixth.
Mangioni's homer, his first in his second NY-P season tied it in the ninth.
Auburn finishes the three-game series at Mahoning Valley today and returns on Monday for the home opener against the Scrappers.
