KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Phoebe J. Murphy, 71, of 706 Tournament Lane, Kissimmee, Fla. died unexpectedly Nov. 20, 2003. Phoebe grew up in Scipio Center and was a former long-time resident of Homer and Cortland.
She was born Sept. 13, 1932, in Woodside, the daughter of the late Phoebe (Christina) Downey Marion Chase and Joseph B. Marion. Phoebe graduated from Sherwood High School in 1949 and the Mount Sinai School of Nursing in New York City in 1953. She was a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner. She married Donald R. Murphy on Nov. 28, 1953, in Aurora.
Phoebe was formerly employed by Dr. Raymond Olsen of OB/GYN Associates of Cortland, St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, Walt Disney World and Central Florida Healthcare in Florida. She was a former member and musical director of the Cortland Sweet Adelines.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Donald R. Murphy; three children, Mary Ellen Murphy of Cortland, Bruce D. Murphy of Kissimmee, Fla. and Timothy E. Murphy of Lake City, Fla.; a sister, Mary (Robert) Sacha of Severna Park, Md.; four grandchildren, Pvt. Joseph B. Hartley of Cortland, Shannon M. Murphy of Jacksonville, Fla., Maxmillian and Morgan Murphy of Lake City, Fla.; a niece, Carol (Sacha) Gifford of Cleveland, Ohio; three nephews, Douglas (Kathy) Sacha of Cincinnati, Ohio, David (Sue) Sacha of Alexandria, Va. and Dennis (Denise) Sacha of Jacksonville, Fla.; a step-sister, Rhoda (Peter) Curtiss of Tupper Lake and two step-brothers, Harold (Eleanor) Chase of Avon Park, Fla. and Robert (Priscilla) Chase of Aurora.
Services and burial will be at 11 a.m. June 19, 2004, in Evergreen Cemetery, Scipio.
