UNION SPRINGS - Jane E. Berry, 82, of Grove Street, Union Springs, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Berry was born in Auburn, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Harriet W. Fitzwater Berry, and has resided in Union Springs for most of her life. She was employed as a secretary for Beacon Milling Co. for 40 years. In addition, she served as Springport town clerk, town historian, Union Springs deputy village clerk and village historian for many years.Ms. Berry was also an active volunteer with the Cayuga County Chapter of the American Red Cross, a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, and the Leisure Hour Literary Club.
Surviving is one sister, Marilyn Berry Smith and her husband William of Storrs, Conn.; two nieces, Barbara L. Fritzell and her husband Carl of East Haddam, Conn. and Laura Ellen Fisher and her husband Orville of Masontown, W. Va.; one nephew, W. David Smith and his wife Sonya of East Haddam, Conn.; five great-nieces, three great-nephews and one great-grandniece; and dear friend, W. D. Lashbrook of Seneca Falls.
Friends are invited to call from 1 to 3 p.m. today, March 21, at the Shakelton Funeral Home, Main Street, Aurora. Interment will be in Soule Cemetery, town of Sennett. Memorial services will be held later in the spring, at a time and date to be announced.
