AUBURN - Emma S. Scarbrough, 87, of Standart Woods Apartments, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Auburn Nursing Home, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Scarbrough was born in Brunswick, Maine, the daughter of the late Everett L. and Ella Spulick Strout and has lived in Auburn most of her life. She graduated valedictorian of her 1933 Hudson, N.Y., high school class and attended Syracuse University. She was retired from Lakeland Visual Aid in 1970.
Mrs. Scarbrough was a life member of the Roundabout Literary Club, and a past member of the Highland Golf Club, where she enjoyed many summers golfing. Until her illness, she bowled in the Coffee Break League and the Sunrise Seniors' League at the Polish Falcons. She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Auburn where she and her husband, Bill, have been members for over 60 years.
Surviving is her husband of 64 years, William Scarbrough; one son, Larry Scarbrough of Weedsport; two daughters, Pamela Kirkwood of Auburn and Janet Scarbrough (William Dorr) of Auburn; five grandchildren, Robert Scarbrough of Weedsport, William Scarbrough of Brockport, Jeffrey Scarbrough of Hightstown, N.J., Daniel Scarbrough of Apex, N.C. and Stephen Kirkwood of Atlanta, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, a granddaughter, Sherry Scarbrough, predeceased Mrs. Scarbrough.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today, March 21, at the Brew Funeral Home, 48 South St., Auburn. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, in the First United Methodist Church, 99 South St., Auburn, with the Rev. LeRoy Kettinger, Ph.D., officiating. Interment will be in Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, in memory of Mrs. Scarbrough.
