MISS: To the protestors who vandalized City Hall during the crow hunt weekend. City police believe that a group of animal rights activists from Syracuse University were responsible for the vandalism at Memorial City Hall. A box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts at the scene was traced to a store on Erie Boulevard in Syracuse. The vandals left the doughnuts outside of the South Street landmark after someone spray painted the word "Killers" on the building.

By spray painting both the city building and the gazebo across the street, the vandals redirected the message of what was a peaceful, organized protest of the annual hunt. This illegal activism smears more than public buildings. It smears the public perception of crow supporters.

HIT: There is a lively debate shaping up for Sherwood Boehlert's 24th Congressional District seat. Ithaca's Brian Goodell, president of UAW Local 2300, and Jeff Miller, a Utica College professor, have both announced they will contend for Boehlert's seat. The Democrats will try to unseat the 22-year congressman, a Republican who was nearly beaten in a 2002 Republican primary by then-Cayuga County Legislator David Walrath.

The addition of two Democratic candidates will offer voters a choice they did not have in 2002. Boehlert had no Democratic opposition that year, and his victory over Walrath in the primary all but ensured his re-election.

HIT: There was an Elvis sighting last week. More specifically, an Elvis costume sighting.

Legends bar owner Marcy Albino has to be relieved. His treasured white Elvis costume - which cost $1,800 - was recovered by police after it had been stolen from his bar. Albino also lost Elvis accessories, including scarves, glasses and jewelry, that he estimated at $300.

Police arrested two men in connection with the burglary and a third suspect is being sought.

MISS: To the ongoing negotiations between McQuay International and its workforce. The workers overwhelmingly voted down the latest contract proposal from the company, 212-63.

"We will extend the current contract and go back into negotiations," said Gerry Gregg, president of Allied Industrial Chemical and Energy Workers Local 32. "I think we will be able go back and resolve our differences."

We hope so. McQuay is Auburn's largest manufacturing plant and has 435 employees.
