Port Byron girls outvolley Fabius-Pompey

FABIUS - Shana Sheehy had two assists, six kills and two blocks as the Port Byron girls volleyball team shut out Fabius-Pompey 3-0 in an OHSL, Patriot girls volleyball match on Saturday.
The Panthers defeated the Falcons 25-22, 25-12 and 26-24.

Kristen Paczkowski chipped in six aces and Kristin Rockwood added two aces, one assist and two kills in the victory.

The Panthers' JV team defeated the Falcons 2-1.

Port Byron plays at Cato-Meridian on Tuesday.

POPLAR RIDGE - The Chiefs were paced by Jennfier Mitchell's 11 points, but they fell to the Senecas in their second game in two days.

The Senecas had three players in double digits

The Chiefs' Colleen Lukas chipped in with six points.

Moravia 50,

POPLAR RIDGE - Jessica Scott and Ronica Sharpsteen each recorded a double-double as they led the Blue Devils past the Chiefs on Friday night.

Scott scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Sharpsteen had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Chiefs, which were down 35-31 at the end of third quarter, were outscored 15-2 in the final period.

Colleen Lukas paced the Chiefs with 11 points and Jennifer Mitchell added 10.

The Chiefs host Groton on Tuesday, while the Blue Devils host Marathon on Tuesday.

PORT BYRON - The Panthers had three wrestlers go 2-0 in the meet, but were defeated by both the Warriors and the Eagles on Saturday.

Mike DeRoose won an 8-4 decision over the Warriors' Brent Gage in the 171-pound weight class and then pinned the Eagles' Dan O'Brien in 3:03.

The Panthers' Tyler Peryea (145 pounds) pinned both of his opponents - the Warriors' Henry Shank in 5:18 and the Eagles' Chris Foote in 1:42.

Matt Stachowicz (215 pounds) pinned the Warriors' James McDonald in 48 seconds, then defeated the Eagles' Chris Braun 6-2.

The Panthers (0-4, 5-6) host Onondaga on Wednesday, while the Eagles wrestle at Cortland Wednesday.

Age Group Meet

ITHACA - Union Springs and Southern Cayuga competed in an 11th and 12th grade age group meet at Cornell University on Friday night.

Sarah Allen paced the Chiefs as she finished first in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:40.8.

The Chiefs' Kara Kopp finished third in two events and fourth in another. Kopp finished third in the 55m dash (7.5), fourth in the 300m run (44.2) and teamed with Erika Crosby, Sarah Hughes, and Elizabeth Trojnor-Riley to finish third in the 4x200 relay.

Crosby also finished fourth (7.7) in the 55m, right behind Kopp.

The Wolves were paced by Mackenzie Ziegler-Greer, who finished fifth (3:37.3) in the 1000m run.

In the boys meet, the Chiefs' 4x800 team of Nick Zabriskie, John Troy, Pat McGarr and Dave Gannon finished first with a time of 8:58.4.

Troy also took a fourth-place finish in the 600m run (1:29.8).

The Wolves' 4x200 relay team of Cheol Kessler, Josh Kneskern, Dan Purdy and Justin Aldrich finished fourth with a time of 1:44.8.

Memorial Invitational

SYRACUSE - Katelyn Felter set a personal record in the long jump with a jump of 15-2 1/4 as she finished fifth for the Auburn High School girls indoor track team.

The Maroons run in the OHSL Championships on Wednesday.
