Loree Gagliano and Andy Nolan gave each other a Christmas present that turned into $10,000 early Saturday.
The Auburn residents won the money at Turning Stone Casino in Verona. The couple, who have been dating since November, had decided a good gift to each other would be a show and overnight stay at the resort.
After watching The Marshall Tucker Band, the couple went to their room before heading for the gambling area about midnight.
Gagliano was about to walk past the slot machines, but then she decided to give it a shot.
With $53 on her card, Gagliano twice played the machine without success. "I said, 'Oh, what the (heck), I'll hit it again,'" she said. "So, I hit it again and that's when the sevens came up."
The slot machine did not pour $10,000 worth of coins out. There was just a light blinking on top of the machine, which was making some noise. But the commotion was enough for her to know she was a winner.
"I think I was in shock. I think I was. It hasn't sunk in yet, I don't think. I haven't really reacted too much. It was just incredible.
"I called my parents," she said. I called and woke them up and I called a close friend of mine and woke them up. That was about it. I felt bad getting people out of bed for that. But I had to share a little bit."
