AUBURN - Area Catholic schools have scheduled events commemorating Catholic School Week, which began Sunday and will last through Saturday.
Tyburn Academy
The academy is sending a group of students to SS. Peter & Paul School to do a presentation on the value of the Catholic high school education offered at Tyburn.
Today is a dress-up day.
Wednesday the students will enjoy an after-school movie.
Thursday will be a bowling party.
Friday is a walk-through day for visiting students and a viewing of a video of Father Albert Shamon, founder of the academy, in an interview on EWTN.
During the week, the Student Government Organization will make a presentation of a donation to Matthew House in memory of Shamon.
St. Joseph School
Today is reading day. Students can come dressed as their favorite book character.
Wednesday is special persons' day, when students say thank you to room parents, cafeteria workers, and volunteers.
Thursday is student appreciation day. There will be a special prayer service assembly at 9 a.m. in the gym. In the afternoon, older students will share a box snack with another, younger class.
Friday is Teacher Appreciation Day. Students can dress out of their uniforms if they bring a canned good for the food pantry. Kindergartners will have a special beach party.
Throughout the week, the school will be running its annual book fair.
SS. Peter and Paul School
The school will be open for the registration of new students from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Call the school office at (315) 252-5567 for more information.
Prospective parents may visit the classrooms between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., Jan. 27-30.
Beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, the school will have a talent show that everyone is invited to attend.
Also at Tyburn
A group of 12 students from the academy went to Washington D.C. for the "March for Life." The march is a peaceful demonstration of opposition to the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.
In addition to the march down Pennsylvania Avenue, students participated in a youth rally and Mass, and visited sites such as the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Union Station, and various historical monuments.
The students returned from their three-day trip Friday night.
Ten students so far have signed up for a school trip to Rome, Italy.
The group will leave Tuesday, Feb. 10, and come back Monday, Feb.16.
The trip will include visits to basilicas and historical sites.
Family Fun Day
Cayuga Community College will host its fourth annual Family Fun Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, in the Spartan Hall Gym.
The event is free, open to the public and all ages are welcome.
There will be animal mask making, balloon animals, carnival clown and magic show, face painting, animal photo opportunities, games and more.

Peachtown Elementary School, located on the Wells College campus in Aurora, will host an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb.1.
You can tour the school, meet the teachers and learn about the pre-K to eighth-grade program.

Benjamin Chapman Skrodzki, a sophomore at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., has earned honor roll status for the fall term.
Honor roll status at Washington and Lee represents a term grade average of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.
Skrodzki is the son of Carol A. Skrodzki of Auburn.
