WEEDSPORT - The village steps into the past this weekend to celebrate the Yuletide season, time tripping back to the 19th century when Father Christmas was king.
On Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the village will hold its Old Tyme Christmas, an event that's celebrated throughout downtown. Local businesses will host an open house. Indoor and outdoor vendors will display their wares. There will be horse-drawn wagon rides, visits from Santa, and magic, puppet and art shows.

Games, raffles, a wide variety of foods and free entertainment round out the festivities.

A special stamp cancellation will help holiday revelers mark the special day.

The day's events are free. For more information, call 834-6110.

Experience counts

CATO - Together they've accumulated almost 60 years of public service.

On Dec. 14 there will be an open house and retirement reception for Marian Bramble, Ira town clerk since 1960, and Robert Eaton, who's been town supervisor for 16 years. Bramble and Eaton decided to retire from public service this year.

The event will be from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Ira's new municipal building on West Main Street in Cato. The event is open to the public. If you have any questions, please call Larry or Bonnie Wallace at 626-6838.

Don't play near the road

BRUTUS - It looks like we're going to have a white Christmas. But while the snow might be beautiful to look at and fun to play in, it can also be deadly dangerous.

Town Supervisor Jon Ozolins, who's also the county's director of Public Works, knows this from first-hand experience. Kids are often attracted to the large mounds of snow that form along the side of roads and driveways, pushed there by the plows. But these piles are unsafe to play in.

Schedule change

WEEDSPORT - The Weedsport Village Board will meet at 4 p.m. Dec. 16. The public hearing for the CDBG project will be held as scheduled at 7 p.m. Dec. 10 with the remaining board members.
