AUBURN - The Auburn girls varsity swim team features a host of new faces this season. The Skaneateles swim team is a new face; this is the first year of the school's varsity program

The two neighbors held their inaugural dual OHSL meet at the Auburn YMCA on Wednesday. As might be expected when a perennial Class A pool power takes on a fledgling Class B squad, the Maroons won rather easily, 89-77.
Auburn swam exhibition in the last event, the 400 freestyle relay, giving Skaneateles 12 points and making the final tally appear less one-sided.
The Maroons' performance was impressive considering that they have 15 swimmers who are freshmen or younger.
"For two-thirds of the team, it was their first high school dual meet," said Tom Clary, Auburn's coach. "For that reason, I thought we did real well."
"When you have kids swimming events for the first time, it's really important that they think about what they're doing. I was very happy with what we did today as far as that goes. They were thinking while they were swimming."
Auburn wasted little time in lapping ahead of Skaneateles, winning three of the first four events.
The Maroon quartet of Stacey Elliott. Catie Swartz, Holly Wayne, and Caitlin Tarver won the 200 medley relay (2:09.60) to open the meet.
Amanda Pace provided a bright spot for the Lakers by winning the next event, the 200 freestyle (2:09.11).
Pace would later on win the 500 freestyle (5:53.10) and the 200 freestyle relay along with Amanda Hamilton, Ashley Plunkett, and Abby Duggan (1:53.92) to complete a strong afternoon.
The rest of the day belonged to Auburn.
Becky Bragan won the 200 individual medley (2:33.61), Kiersten Salemi grabbed the 50 freestyle (28.01), Holly Wayne snagged the 100 butterfly (1:10.00), and Stacey Elliott took first in the 100 backstroke (1:13.78).
Wayne swam exhibition in the 100 breastroke and finished in the best time (1:16.78).
"We knew Auburn was going to win," said Laker coach Jill King. "They're the bigger school, and they're much more experienced. But we turned over some very good times today. I'm very pleased with some of the times we had."
Auburn hosts Fulton on Friday.
Skaneateles (1-1), which defeated Henninger in its opener, is at Nottingham on Tuesday.
The Lakers will be a well-traveled bunch this season. As a result of their home pool at the Skaneateles Community Center not having a timing system, they will have only one home meet
"Each meet, we're getting better times, and each meet, we're setting school records, because we have no school records," King said. "So that's kind of our little incentive. We know we're going to have our hands full with quite a few teams, but we're hoping to grab a few wins here and there."
